Full-Time Archaeological Site Assistant
Based in East Sussex, Archaeology South-East (the Field Unit of the Institute of Archaeology, UCL) requires short-contract staff to work on excavations in southern England.
Work opportunities can arise at very short notice, and we currently have in place a number of tenders, which if successful will mean that we will require Archaeological Site Assistants at short notice, whom we can contact as and when circumstances require.
Successful applicants will be required to excavate, draw, describe, and (if required and able) photograph, archaeological features and deposits. Wash, mark and undertake basic quantification of finds and assist with the processing of bulk soil samples.
Applicants should be competent at general excavation and recording techniques and have a careful and methodical approach to work. Ideally the applicant will have a degree in archaeology or with major archaeological component. A working knowledge of at least some period(s) of British archaeology is essential as is previous experience of archaeological fieldwork.
